it is for stoves and bbq's. i cleaned and brushed with a wire brush. then a little sandpaper to clean up some rough spots. the paint goes on easy but go slow and use more layers than heavy spray. it worked well for me, i have seen people say that it does not stay on the metal but i think that would be from not cleaning the metal first. good luck
